Santa Ana River Bicycle Trail Closure - Northbound Detour at Tustin Ave

CALTRANS SR-91 Santa Ana River Bridge Construction - northbound detour of Santa Ana River Bicycle Trail  between N. Tustin Ave and S. Lakeview Ave until October 2015


During construction, the Santa Ana River Bridge will be widened and retaining walls will be installed from east of the connector to Tustin Avenue. The northbound SART- Santa Ana River Bicycle Trail will be closed. Detour signs will be posted for bicyclists to use Tustin Avenue to Riverdale Avenue to Lakeviewn Avenue as an alternate route. Tustin and Lakeview Avenues do not have a dedicated bike lane, but Riverdale Avenue does. 



SART Northbound Detour between N. Tustin Ave and S. Lakeview Ave until October 2015. The Detour routes you onto Tustion Ave Southboud to East Riverdale Ave eastward to Lakeview Ave northbound. See Northbound Detour pictures below.

Northbound Approaching Tustin Ave. If you continue under the Tustin Ave Bridge you will encounter a gate with the SART Closure, and have to turn around.

At Tustin Ave, veer right follow detour signs to Tustin Ave.

At the intersection of Tustin Ave and East Riverdale, you have two options. 1) you can ride into the roadway to the left turn lane, and make a left hand turn at the light; or 2) ride on the sidewalk to the intersection and  use the crosswalk to cross Riverdale. This is a dangerous intersection, use caution.

After you make the left turn onto East Riverdale Ave, you uphill over the 91 freeway overpass.

Riverdale bike lane is narrow. Ride single file. Use caution at the Finch Street instersection. Make a full stop for red lights. Further up on Riverdale is a stop sign at Deerfield St. Be a safe bicyclist and make a full stop at the stop sign.

Riverdale & Lakeview intersection is very dangerous. You have two options: 1) you can ride into the roadway to the left turn lane, and make a left hand turn at the light; or 2) stay on Riverdale to the intersection and use the crosswalk to cross Lakeview. Cars are driving fast. Be absolutely sure you look before crossing from the bike lane into the roadway to the left turn lane.

After you cross onto Lakeview Ave, head north on Lakeview Ave to the SART enterance.

At the Lakeview Ave SART enterance, turn right onto the Santa Ana River Bicycle Trail.

Now you are heading northbound again on the Santa Ana River Bicycle Trail toward Imperial Highway.

Friends of the Santa Ana River Trail is a volunteer community group involved in Bicycle safety education, eco-friendly preservation and recreational multi-use of the Santa Ana River Trail system. Also, known as the Santa Ana River Bikeway, Santa Ana Bicycle Path and SART. Our goal is to encourage a high quality, family oriented trail system that blends an attractive mix of recreational amenities, neighborhood green space, and local cultural heritage allowing people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the pleasures of the Santa Ana River Trail in a fun and safe environment. The Santa Ana River Trail spans over 120 miles through Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The trail is one of the largest non-motorized social boulevards in the United States.
